UV lamp efficiency depends on the order in which they are installed in the plant, how they are supplied with electricity, and how they are cooled. Optimum operation and main- tenance is also of great importance. The following rules need to be observed:
-
Frequent switching on and off is not good for UV lights
Every time the lamp is switched off, its lifetime is
shortened by half an hour.
Therefore: try to avoid switching the lamp off unless the off time is likely to be longer than 30 minutes. - UV lamps should be cleaned regularly, using alcohol or methylated spirit. Any particles not yet burnt on can be removed by these means.
- The quartz tube of the lamp should never be touched with bare fingers. Traces of sweat are very aggressive towards quartz and they will cause dullness, due to re- crystallisation. If a UV lamp is touched by accident, it must be cleaned again, using alcohol or meths.
If these points are observed, the life of the UV lamp can be significantly extended.
